The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology has promoted two employees in Information Technology and Web Management in its continued pursuit of advancing the organization technologically. These two long-time staff members will help the Society with ever-expanding technological advances and demands through information technology infrastructure and Web applications.

Mike Sullivan will assume the position of Assistant Director of Information Technology. In his new role, Mr. Sullivan will be responsible for ASTRO's information technology infrastructure, including networking and telecommunications. He will also play a part in shaping ASTRO's databases and applications. Mr. Sullivan has been with the ASTRO Information Technology team since 2005.

Amy Kapinus has accepted the position of Webmaster. Her new responsibilities comprise managing all aspects of ASTRO's Web applications and sites, including http://www.astro.org, www.rtanswers.org, http://www.asro.astro.org and http://www.oncologymeetings.org. She will also be monitoring Web technologies to ensure that ASTRO is current with industry standards, as well as monitoring ASTRO's Web site effectiveness in achieving its goals. Ms. Kapinus has been with ASTRO since 2003 and led the 2006 effort to redesign http://www.astro.org.

"Keeping ASTRO up-to-date technologically is a key component in providing our physicians with the information and educational resources they need. Technology, especially the Internet, is also important as we work to educate people with cancer and their families about the lifesaving benefits of radiation therapy," said Laura I. Thevenot, ASTRO's Chief Executive Officer. "I thank Mike and Amy for their dedication to helping advance ASTRO's mission and know they will both be terrific in their new roles."

ASTRO is the largest radiation oncology society in the world, with nearly 9,000 members who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies. As the leading organization in radiation oncology, biology and physics, the Society is dedicated to the advancement of the practice of radiation oncology by promoting excellence in patient care, providing opportunities for educational and professional development, promoting research and disseminating research results and representing radiation oncology in a rapidly evolving socioeconomic healthcare environment.
